    The SN74HC238N is a high-speed 3-to-8 line decoder/demultiplexer integrated circuit (IC) manufactured by a leading semiconductor company. This versatile device accepts three binary weighted address inputs (A0, A1, A2) and, when enabled, provides eight mutually exclusive active-high outputs (Y0 to Y7). The SN74HC238N features three enable inputs: two active-low (E1 and E2) and one active-high (E3). Every output will be low unless E1 and E2 are low and E3 is high.

    The multiple enable function of the SN74HC238N allows for easy parallel expansion, enabling the creation of a 1-to-32 (5 lines to 32 lines) decoder with just four ICs and one inverter. Additionally, the IC can be used as an eight-output demultiplexer by using one of the active-low enable inputs as the data input and the remaining enable inputs as strobes. Unused enable inputs must be permanently tied to their appropriate active-high or low state.

    The SN74HC238N is pin-compatible with low-power Schottky TTL (LSTTL) and other TTL families, offering engineers and designers increased flexibility and convenience when integrating the IC into existing circuits. It also complies with JEDEC standard no. 7A and features ESD protection, with an HBM JESD22-A114E rating exceeding 2000V and an MM JESD22-A115-A rating exceeding 200V.
